Fishermans is perfectly located in a region with a wealth of attractions on the edge of the Lake District National Park.
Silverdale village is within a 5 minute walk with 2 pubs serving food, a restaurant, 2 café’s - one with a craft gallery, a farm selling its homemade ice cream and good local shops. There is also an 18 hole golf course and a holiday park offering a swimming pool and gym. The wider area also has many excellent places to eat with award winning local produce of fish, meats and cheeses.
The famous coastal railway is a great way to explore the beauty of the Cumbrian Coast and its attractions.
Silverdale and nearby Arnside have a thriving community of artists and craftsmen drawn by the special light on the coast who exhibit regularly and throw open their doors for the annual Arts and Crafts Trail around the village where you can see them at work. A number of the artworks in our cottage are by local artists.
There are fabulous walks straight from the door - on the beach, along the coast, across countryside and through woodland areas many owned and managed by the National Trust. We have maps and local walks books to help you make the most of this stunning area.
Rich in birdlife, the Bay on which the cottage sits is a Special Protection Area. With its ever changing population of migratory birds it is a well known haven for Ornithologists. The nearby RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss and numerous other Nature Reserves offer access to wildlife. Rare flora and fauna and butterflies add further colour and interest to this dramatic landscape.
Market towns such as Kirkby Lonsdale, Cartmel, Kendal and Lancaster offer independent shopping within a 30 minute drive and there is easy access to Windermere and the Lake District for lake cruising, water sports, walking and sightseeing. Many local towns have festivals and country shows where you can enjoy some local colour. There are also numerous National Trust and privately owned houses, gardens, castles and wild animal parks to visit.
